BiomaterialsNewly emerging innovative solutions experimenting their properties to create new materials and fabric qualities for the fashion and textiles industry aswell as in further industries. A new developing solution to help reduce pollution and the issue of the mass fabric waste, is a biodegradable material called biomaterials. I have experimented creating biomaterials using natural organic matters which are considered as non harmful chemicals and are biodegradable. I explored using sand and crushed shells as they are natural matters so should not be harmful to the environment when the biomaterial decomposes. The developing idea of living bacteria, yeast, algae, animal cells and fungi creates exciting opportunities for what is possible for the future of the textile and fashion industry.

Natural DyeingExperimenting with natural dyes instead of synthetic dyes to colour fabrics is considered to be a more sustainable alternative to combat the issues with chemical pollution in the water and on land. I have experimented with natural dyes created from spices, vegetables, fruit and plants and found objects. Creating a range of colours altering with bicarbonate of soda, lemon juice and vinegar to react with the PH to alter the colours created.
